NOT ALL MARTYRS SEE DIVINITY, BUT AT LEAST YOU TRIED. nevada woke up too early this morning and her head was killing her. she needed to sleep longer, but there was no way she was going to be able to any time soon. especially since the sun had shone too bright onto the bus this morning. there was no way she'd be able to sleep through that. so instead, she decided to head on over to starbucks. hopefully no one would bother her there, she was just too hungover from the night before, but then again, there was no telling who would annoy her this morning. asking not to be bothered wouldn't do anything, between fans and paparazzi she was destined to get swarmed. the girl got dressed, looking like she fell out of the eighties. after looking at herself, she couldn't help but grin until she looked at her legs as she pulled up her knee socks. "why are you so flabby?" she frowned, slapping her already thin legs. she shook the thoughts from her head as she put on her make up. winged eyeliner, fake eyelashes, concealer, blush, then finished it off with her plumping lip gloss. just as she went to leave the bus, she stopped herself running over to her bag full of over-sized hair bows that she made herself. the girl rummaged through the bag, looking down at her outfit until she found the bow that matched. she pulled the headband out and placed it perfectly in her black, teased, humungous hair and then she was on her way.
after getting out of the crowd of people, nevada ordered herself a banana mocha frappacino and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. she got her drink and bagel pretty quickly and paid for it, deciding that she'd rather stick around in the little cafe instead of wandering off somewhere and try to find something interesting to do. she took a seat next to a big window and started to spread the cream cheese over her bagel, feeling her stomach rumble as she looked down at it. then she thought of her legs, and frowned. it looked so good, she took the smell in through her nose and sighed as she sipped her drink. she couldn't even think of the calories that were in her drink, she blocked it from her mind and concentrated on the bagel. "i don't want you. i mean i do but i can't." she whispered under her breath, sighing and taking a bite. she chewed and she chewed and she chewed, swallowing hard and pushing it away from her. she frowned, sipping her drink before letting out another sigh.

don't tell me how i feel diego wasn't usually an early riser, but for some reason, he'd woken early that morning. he figured it had something to do with the splitting headache that was the remnant of his night out drinking with mathias the night before. more than anything, diego wished he could go back to sleep, but since it felt like his brain was slamming itself against his skull, he knew it'd be impossible. no one else on his bus was awake, and after checking the kitchen for coffee and finding none, there was nothing to do but head into town and find somewhere to get a decent coffee. not only that, but he had found over the years that fresh air always seemed to clear his head a bit when he was hungover. it might not take the pain away, but it would definitely help.
he threw on the first clothes he found on the floor, after deciding his clothes from the night before were a little smelly. he'd always been quite a tidy person, but right now, his headache was diego's main concern. he could always come back and make sure everyone's shit was tidy after his coffee. the white tank he had put on at least smelled clean, though diego had no idea how long it might have been on the floor. either way, he wasn't expecting to meet anyone, and didn't particularly care what people thought of him.
when he finally got off the venue, however, diego would have had to be blind to miss the looks thrown his way. with his tattoos and piercings, diego stuck out in any crowd, but his height only made him stand out all the more. he ignored most of the stares he got as he made his way down the street, keeping his gaze fixed ahead. but that was before someone very familiar in the corner of his eye caught his attention. shock made diego stop in his tracks as he tried to figure out whether it was someone he knew or not. looking at the store as a whole, he figured that as it was starbucks, and he was after coffee anyway, there was no harm in going inside and having a look.
ordering a regular black coffee, diego stood around rather awkwardly while he waited for it. when it was finally handed over to him, he turned on his heel and headed towards the window where he'd seen her. on this side of the glass, there was no mistaking her. nevada.
without saying anything he slid into the seat opposite her, holding his coffee in both hands in front of him. it didn't take him long to piece together the scene before him. the bagel with a single bite taken out of it, the thin girl in front of him. letting out a sigh, diego tried his best to summon something of a friendly smile, although all he felt was awkward. "you should eat that. it's good for you." he told her, taking a sip from his coffee. the hot liquid burnt his tongue, but he barely even flinched. his attention was focused entirely on the girl in front of him. 529. nevada. sorry this is crap. NOT ALL MARTYRS SEE DIVINITY, BUT AT LEAST YOU TRIED. not too long after shoving away her bagel, she felt her stomach rumble again and she felt like crying all over the starbucks. nevada literally couldn't stand how her brain worked, she loved showing off her body and giving off this confidence but the minute foods thrown her way she hated herself and just wanted to sit in a corner and chain smoke while downing shots of whiskey. suddenly, her loneliness was interrupted and quickly perked her head up to observe who had taken the seat across from her. shit. it was diego. when he spoke up about her eating, she rolled her eyes trying her best to give the boy a smile. she knew how this conversation was going to go, it was the same back when they first met and he caught on to her eating disorder. he actually helped her though, which was the strange part. nevada let her mind trail back to when she dated diego, she bit the inside of her lip to try and get rid of the thoughts but it didn't work. he got her through so much progress, thanks to a shit load of pot and taco bell, but she was eating and gaining weight without and problem. sadly, the minute they broke up she went back to pretty much starving herself. she sighed, looking diego in the face. she hated how hot he was, it made it hard to be serious in times like this. nevada shook her head slightly, pushing the plate away from her a bit more. "i don't ne-" she sighed, hard and restarted her sentence. "i don't want it." she felt her cheeks get warm, bringing the back of her hand across her cheeks gently to feel the warmth.
she heard her phone give off a little chime like ring, and she quickly went in her pocket to silence it. it was the little reminder on her phone that marked how many days it's been since she's eaten last, she felt her eyes roll again seeing that she broke the progress with that stupid bite of that stupid bagel. nevada went back and restarted the count, biting the inside of her lip again to stop her from swearing aloud. she couldn't get past four days, and now that diego was sitting in front of her she figured she'd never get past one. anyways, she shoved her phone back in her pocket and shook all the thoughts of her weight and eating from her mind. "how have you been?" she asked, quickly changing the subject.

don't tell me how i feel sitting across from nevada, diego couldn't help but let his eyes run over her. she was still pretty, gorgeous, even, though he hated how thin she was. even thinner than when he had seen her last. worst of all, he couldn't help but feel responsible. yes, diego knew he had nothing to do with the causes of nevada's eating disorder, but he thought they had made real progress. now it seemed the vocalist was back to square one. diego didn't really have any right to tell her to eat, but as a friend and knowing that he still obviously cared for the girl seated opposite him, made him stay. nevada would eat that entire bagel if diego had anything to do with it.
he smirked when he saw her roll her eyes, taking another long sip of his coffee while he waited for her to speak. of course, nevada didn't disappoint. he arched an eyebrow at her restarting her sentence, shaking his head slowly. "you do. i could see it in your eyes." his dark eyes ran over her face for a few moments, before looking down at his coffee. he was never exactly the forceful sort, so he left it there for now. at least with that nevada knew she wasn't going to be fooling him anytime soon. simply because diego knew her too well.
miraculously he managed to remain quiet while nevada was busy on her phone, taking sips from his coffee every so often. he had no idea what she could be doing, but diego had always been strangely patient when it came to the girl before him. so he waited for her to speak. he anticipated the subject change, nevada's way of diverting his attention elsewhere, and off her ever present bad eating habits. he kept his eyes trained on nevada a moment longer before answering her question.
"i've been okay. my band broke up. so i'm a drum tech for dora's band." he punctuated the sentence with a shrug, his lips curving upwards as he used his cousin's pet name. diego had called julian dora since the first time he'd seen go diego go and realized diego was dora's cousin. diego knew nevada would have no trouble realizing dora was julian and not some other girl that he was with. "what about you? your band seems to be doing pretty well." try as he might, diego wasn't jealous of the fame his ex-girlfriend had found. she worked hard, and she deserved it. he just wished she was taking better care of herself. not so subtly, he nudged the plate with the barely touched bagel towards nevada, a wicked smirk crossing his face. with any luck, nevada wouldn't take any more convincing to finish her food. then again, she'd always been a stubborn one. it was one of the things diego had liked about her. 479. nevada. tra la laaa.

NOT ALL MARTYRS SEE DIVINITY, BUT AT LEAST YOU TRIED. she ignored everything he was saying or doing, although it wasn't much, about her eating. it was clearly non of his business, even though nevada would have done anything and everything possible to make it his business again. not the whole eating thing, but just letting him into her world again. anyone close to nevada, whether it's band mates; her sister; etc, would tell you that even though she's had her ups and downs in life the happiest they've ever seen her is when she's onstage or when she was dating diego. something about him just brought out the best in her, and made her want to be the best person she could be in life. not to mention the progress he helped her make, it was like he actually gave a shit about her. sure she knew her friends and sister cared about her, but it was different with diego. she thought of them being together now, but as if they never broke up. sure they fought, what couples didn't? that's what always made them stronger, or so she thought. when he brought up the idea of breaking it off, she immediately just felt worthless. like that one person was just like eh- whatever. it killed her, which made her go back to her old bad habits. the one where she didn't eat for four days, got blacked out drunk, and woke up in a hotel room naked with about three other guys with dried blood on her nose from the coke she bumped the night before. it wasn't a life she wanted to stay in, but enjoyed it while she could. plus the drugs and the alcohol kept her mind off of eating and the hunger pains.
with his eyes on her, her mind bubbled up the thoughts that he was judging her. too thin? too fat? she didn't know but the devil in her brain helped her think it was a mixture of both. which certainly wasn't helping with the bagel situation, eat it and have people online bashing you for being too fat? or skip it and continuously have people online bashing you for being too skinny. she couldn't win. she half smiled at him saying he was a drum tech, sure he was still around the lifestyle of a musician but she knew how passionate he was about drumming, she always hoped he'd get noticed and make it big. whether he was with his own band or getting shoved into one without a dummer, she just always hoped he'd get somewhere. she let her child-like giggle slip out as he said dora, she thought his relationship with julian was adorable. it reminded her a lot of her and her sister, they were just so close. then he asked her the same question, following it up with a statement about her band. she nodded. "yeah we seem to be gettin' up there." nevada shrugged, putting her chin in the palm of her hand after resting her elbow upon the table. when he pushed the plate towards her, she looked at him and couldn't help but smile at his face. god why was he so cute? she shook her head, letting the smile fade. she tucked her lips into her mouth, running her index finger across the bagel getting a thin layer of cream cheese on her finger tip before putting the finger in her mouth. once it was clean of the condiment, she forced her eyes to lock with his and she let a sigh leave her. "that's all you're getting out of me. please stop acting like you still care." she pushed the plate towards him, standing up and throwing out the trash from her cup along with the plastic silverware and empty cream cheese container. she turned back towards the table, and let out another sigh before making her way towards the door.

don't tell me how i feel hearing nevada giggle made diego's mouth twist into a smirk. he had to admit, her laughter was a sound he had missed hearing, but hearing it even now gave him a bittersweet feeling. at least he could still make her laugh, he supposed. truthfully, he was amazed that she was still seated at the table with him and hadn't got up to leave.
he nodded slowly as nev answered his question about her band. he wished that he had actually seen one of their sets to actually talk about it with her, but he hadn't. and diego had always been a bad liar, so even just saying that he had seen them when he hadn't would have bad consequences. he was lost in thought for a moment when he realized nevada was smiling at him. caught off guard, he returned her smile. just like her laugh, it was something he had missed, and it was a welcome sight.
but his expression quickly turned blank as he watched nevada eat the cream cheese, his eyebrow raising slightly. he hadn't truthfully expected her to eat the entire bagel, but he supposed the lick of cream cheese was better than nothing. he let her speak and get up without answering her, turning to see her pause at the door before looking back at him with another sigh. it almost made diego's face crack into a grin. almost. if that wasn't an invitation to follow her, diego knew nothing. as it was, he wiped his face with his face, considered whether or not to bring the remainder of the bagel with him and deciding he better not. coffee in hand, he got to his own feet, and followed nev out the door.
"that's a little rude, don't you think, niƱa?" he called after her, ignoring the looks he got from people. with his long strides, it didn't take long until he didn't have to shout after her anymore. "nev.. wait." he said, pausing for a moment before continuing. "maybe i shouldn't have sat down with you. i don't know, i was just shocked to see you." he shrugged lamely, knowing he couldn't have just ignored nevada even if he tried. also, he had a sneaking suspicion that nevada wouldn't have let herself get ignored either. "anyway, what're you up to? it's kind of early." diego's curiosity always got the better of him, but he genuinely just wanted to know what she was doing off the venue at this time of morning. IDK. nevada. this is bad sorreh D:
